In the world today, the top selling, most famous musicians are uneducated ( in some cases) or unschooled ( in some cases). A number of them are both uneducated and unschooled. My question is – Why is it that this very influential, spirit, soul and body inspiring field has been left largely to people who have not taken the time to invest in themselves? To better their minds, morals and principles? It is no wonder that the prevailing trend in music today is that of the lowest/ basest impulses of humankind.
In Nigeria, in the effort “to make it” in music, all sorts of plagiarism, mechanical manipulation, debauchery is employed. What would the world be if the musicians of the day were educated and schooled?
Imagine the quality and effect of music on the earth …
Examples of educated Nigerian musicians are Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Jidenna and Naeto-C,to name a few ( there are many others). The quality of music they have put out into the world speaks for itself.
Black people all over the world need musicians that build the spirit and souls of their listeners. The role of the musician in the human experience is one of responsibility and should be stewarded. What ever musicians put out cannot be retrieved.
